Materials

I am drawn to cloth that has already had a life. Some pieces are gathered from secondhand shops; others begin simply and are changed through eco-dyeing, natural dyes such as onion skins and avocado pits, rust dyeing, paint processes, layering, and wear.

 

The gathering matters to me as much as the altering. I enjoy the days spent searching through secondhand shops, finding something overlooked and imagining what it might become. There is a kind of rebirth in that process—a material carried out of one life and given the possibility of another.

 

I don't always know where the piece will eventually belong. For a while, I simply let it become material again; changed by hand, marked by process, and waiting to be discovered anew.
